It's the winter recess here at UW, meaning we're taking advantage of the open schedule at WSUM to expand The Way Out to 2 hours every Thursday night. And we're kicking off the new year by looking back at the old one. For our Thursday, January 2, 2014, show, we broadcast the first of our two-part 2013: Year in Review series.
"Best of" lists always make us anxious. We're obsessive music fans and record collectors here at The Way Out, and "best of" lists just feel too definitive and restrictive. 2013 was a very good year for music (every year is, if you listen hard enough!), and there was just way too much notable stuff to include in even a few hours of radio. Moreover, it's inevitable that as soon as we finalize a list of the best artists, albums, or songs, we will immediately change our minds about something. That, or we discover something great that we completely forgot. So, our 2013: Year in Review isn't exactly a "best of" - it's just a shambolic run through some of the more interesting and exciting new sounds to come out during 2013. Here's the playlist for Part 1:

TOY - "Fall Out of Love"
